Bird Watching at Lake 10
Lake 10 sits between two living wetlands — the Upparu lagoon and Nelum Wewa — in Eluwankulama, on the northern edge of Wilpattu. Over 200 resident and migratory species use these waters and the scrub forest around them, and you don't need a jeep to see them: the best birding here starts at the end of our garden.
What makes this corner special
The north-west of Sri Lanka is a crossroads: coastal lagoon, dry-zone forest and open tank country meet within a few kilometres. That mix brings waders and waterfowl to the lagoons, raptors over the paddy, and forest species at the Wilpattu boundary — three habitats birdable in a single unhurried morning.

- On foot at dawn: the lagoon edge and village tank are minutes away. Kingfishers, herons, egrets, storks and bee-eaters are daily company.
